This is a rather easy and quick recipe but the outcome is so good!
My friend Mirelle taught me this recipe years ago when we were making waffles one afternoon and it became my go-to chocolate sauce ever since. It’s also lovely drizzled over ice cream, cakes, brownies, pancakes…
You can make this glossy sauce as thick or as runny as you like depending on how long you let it simmer.
CHOCOLATE SAUCE
makes about 200 ml
INGREDIENTS
180 ml milk – ΒΎ cup
100 g sugar – Β½ cup
20 g cocoa powder – ΒΌ cup
1 tbsp butter
pinch of salt
METHOD
Combine all the ingredients in a saucepan and bring to the boil. Let it simmer for about 1 minute – it’ll still be a bit runny but it’ll thicken as it cools.

Thanks to you – and Mirelle. You are right, this would be great drizzled over waffles or just about anything. Everyone should have a recipe for a basic chocolate sauce in their arsenal.
