Guys, these rolls are absolutely scrummy! We polished them off straight from the oven 😀
I adapted it from one of the many recipes that came with my bread machine and I just couldn’t believe how soft and light this dough turned out!
I’m definitely taking them to Fiesta Friday 🙂
BLUE CHEESE AND PEAR ROLLS
INGREDIENTS
1 egg
250ml (1 cup) milk
2 tbsp butter
1 ½ tsp salt
2 tbsp sugar
375g (3 cups) flour
1 ½ tbsp instant dry yeast
2 pears, sliced or diced
150g blue cheese, crumbled (I used gorgonzola)
1 egg, beaten
METHOD (using a bread machine)
Place ingredients (except cheese, pear and beaten egg), in the order listed, in the bread pan fitted with the kneading paddle. Place the bread pan in the bread machine.
Press ‘menu’ and select ‘white bread’. Press ‘crust’ and select ‘medium’. Press ‘loaf’ and select 900g (2lb). Press ‘start’.
When the pause signal sounds, turn off the machine and remove the dough. Place dough on a floured surface. Roll the dough out into a rectangle, about 0.5cm (1⁄4″) thick. Distribute pear slices and crumbled cheese evenly over the surface of the dough. Roll the dough into a tight cylinder starting with the shorter side. Cut into 5cm pieces, arrange them on a baking tray lined with parchment (cut side up) and prove for 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 180°C.
Brush rolls with beaten egg and bake for 30 minutes or until golden.
METHOD (by hand or using mixer fitted with dough hook)
Place milk and butter in a jug and heat it the microwave for 1 minute or until warm. Add yeast and set aside.
Place dry ingredients in a bowl and mix.
Add egg to the yeast mixture and mix. Add yeast mixture to the dry ingredients and knead for 5 (mixer) or 10 minutes (by hand). Let it prove for 1 hour.

Thanks Uru! I think cheese and fruit are so amazing together that I can’t decide which combo I like best: blue cheese/pear or brie/apricot 🙂
